Destination: Raleigh, North Carolina, USA
A group of six University of Chicago students spent Spring Break 2008 in Statesville, North Carolina working on one home in conjunction with Belmont University students. The house was being built for a mother and her daughter who are a host family for foster children. Due to financial constraints, the mother and daughter had been forced to live in a substandard one-bedroom apartment, and were therefore unable to accommodate foster children any longer. With their new three-bedroom home, however, this family will be able to accommodate foster children once again. Our group helped to build a house for them, and this family will make it a home for not only themselves, but for many children in need for many years to come.
